Question for you who have already closed....need help

Ok guys, I need ya'lls help.

How does your dishwasher work?  Honestly.

Ours doesn't seem to want to dry anything.  YES, it's set on Heat Dry.  But everything is still covered in water and wet when we go to unload it....HOURS later sometimes.  It just seems to us that a brand new dishwasher should not be acting this way.  Our old 10 year old one did this.  There does seem to be some heat from it during the dry cycle, but....  I don't know. We are extremely unhappy with the how it drys.  Love how quiet it is, but what good is a dishwasher that doesn't dry worth a darn?

So, what's going on with your dishwashers?  Do you like them?  Do they dry worth darn?

Thanks.

  1. You know, you are not the first person I've heard about who was not happy with their dishwasher in their new home. I can't remember the blog I read, but they weren't happy. Hope you get it working well.:(

  2. Not happy with our dishwasher either! Not so much that it doesn't dry, but the soap dispenser wouldn't open all the way and I'd end up with dried soap powder in the cup dispenser!!

We started using gel and it is better, but overall the dishwasher doesn't do a great job and I just about clean my dishes before I put them in!! LOL I've just learned to live with it.

  3. Sounds like something is wrong with your dishwasher. We are on our third one in this house and all 3 have never had a problem drying things...you will occasionally get a cup or glass that will have a little bit of water on top(a little puddle), but the dishes that are upright are never wet. Is there a troubleshooting section in the manual...what brand/model do you have?

  4. Noey, this should not happen. I do notice that if I have a lot of plastic in there that things are not as dry which I think is normal..something about the way plastic reacts to the heat. However, on normal dishes and glasses it should be warm and dry when the cycle is finished.

  5. The husband and I were JUST talking about this last night. The dishwasher is our only disappointment so far in our entire house! We upgraded the appliances, so it's not even the cheapest version we could have gotten. It dries fine, but the dishes have to be pretty clean before loading otherwise they don't come out clean. In our old dishwasher, we could load plates caked with food and they would come out perfectly every time! I agree with the others though, sounds like you may have an issue with your drying cycle, that seems pretty extreme.

  6. Noey - what is the model number on this? You should try to look up reviews online (although I'm sure you already did) because you might be able to find that others have this issue as well. I'm really nervous about my dishwasher too now!

  7. My dishwasher in my apartment is brand new and does the exact same thing. Typically just on the plastic stuff though, not really on the normal dishes.

I just open the door and pull out the top rack for an hour or two and it works out. Or, I'll take the wet plastic and put it on a dry rack. I rarely use the "HEAT DRY" as it costs more on the electric bill and doesn't really do much in my opinion.

  8. I hate our dishwasher; it is terrible. It doesn't clean or dry the dishes very well. And occasionally the water doesn't work and we get a burning smell coming from it. We went with the basic appliance package though.

  9. I'm not sure if we're talking about the same dishwasher or not, but we had initially planned on upgrading to Ryan's stainless package until my husband realized that the dishwasher was the same one that he has at the firehouse. He said it's terrible and refused to pay extra for something he knew didn't work well. We opted for the standard appliances and bought our own stainless. We just sold the dishwasher on Craigslist a few days ago.

  10. Yikes. This is exactly why I didn't get the washer/dryer or fridge with Ryan, but we DID upgrade to stainless for the gas stove and dishwasher. I figured that my existing house has the cheapest most basic appliances ever made, and I've never given it a second though - everything always worked with ZERO issues and its been 12 years now (thank you, KENMORE!). I'm going to be super irked if the new upgraded dishwasher is a big hunk of junk. Had I been thinking rationally, I would have done what NKY did. Darn.

Can you remind us what package you got, and what the model number of your dishwasher is?

  11. Wow--this is crazy. Sounds like so many of you
are not happy with their dishwashers...i can't believe that so many would have problems with the dishwashers. wow.

  12. It's a GE. I upgraded to the stainless steel appliances but only the basic level ones. All the appliances you get from Ryan are GE. And from my understanding, GE has gone way down in quality over the years. But, we'll see. Microwave and oven are pretty awesome.

Now to be fair, a lot of what's in our dishwasher is plastic. Lots of tupperware (left overs) and a lot of children's dishes. So that may be why we aren't drying well. Mostly plastic. Our nice dishes do dry well.

However the top shelf doesn't seem to dry much at all. That is our worry. I'll look better tomorrow at it and see if it's just the plastic up there too.

Thanks Ya'll! Sorry so many of you have issues with your dishwashers too.

I will say the dishwasher is little. It holds less than any other dishwasher I have ever had too.

This is why we blog. To tell it all like it is. I have had an amazing experience so far with Ryan Homes. But if I had just one piece of advice, it would be to get different dishwashers or change who makes their appliances.

  13. Anonymous also had a suggestion above, but you may not have picked up on it. Those of you that are having drying problems are you using the Jet Dry Turbo rinse agent. If you guys aren't using it that is half your problem. Jet Dry Turbo claims it will even help plastics dry. You have to use a rinse agent for your dishes to dry completely and without spots and streaks. Let us know if you are already using it and still have the problem.

  14. I have never bought any kind of rinse aids. Figured they were frivolous and an expense I'd rather not have. However, this dishwasher as a spot for a Cascade rinse agent. I guess it's time I bite the bullet and try it. I hope they aren't expensive.

  15. UPDATE: We bought some jetdry (couldn't find the casacade version). It does help. Doesn't fix it totally, but hit helps. =) Plastics still the major issue. But it is what it is.

  16. Did you get the Jet-Dry TurboDry version? It claims to work with plastics too.

Would like to hear if others have tried it and had any success...
